Uninsured children in Connecticut represent a considerable diverse group and insuring them is a major priority. Connecticut's Healthcare for UninSured Kids and Youth, (HUSKY), is a state/ federal program that has enrolled over 4,000 children. It provides a timely opportunity for the state, as well as local community health centers and other primary-care facilities to reach those uninsured children in Connecticut's diverse communities and move the children into the HUSKY program.

In line with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Connecticut Medicaid assistance offers Healthcare for UninSured Kids and Youth (HUSKY A), for children and teenagers 19 years and below. To qualify for HUSKY A program, the applicant's parents or guardians income should not exceed 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. There is no asset limit in this cover. Those within the age of between 19 and 20 years old may qualify to join Connecticut Medicaid programs only if their total income does not exceed 100% of the Federal Poverty Level. There is also no asset limit.

Parents whose children are enrolled in HUSKY A may qualify to receive Medicaid in Connecticut if their total income does not exceed 100% of the Federal Poverty Level, according to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services regardless of their asset limit. Pregnant women also qualify for Connecticut's Medicaid only if their income does not exceed 185% of the FPL. There is no asset limit. Immigrants legally declared as refugees by Immigration and Naturalization Services may receive medical assistance in Connecticut only if they are not eligible to receive benefits from any other assistance program. Aid automatically begins the month the refugee enters the United States and continues for period of eight months. The refugee plan is fully funded by the federal government.

• You have a child 18 years old or younger
• You are a resident of Connecticut
• Have a qualifying income and resource level
• A refugee

• Proof of citizenship or immigration status for yourself and household

The HUSKY program verifies your personal information using data from social security administration, labor department, motor vehicle department and other sources. Eventually, they compare this information with the data that you have submitted to them to see if it is inaccurate. If you are applying for your children, you do not need to provide documents about yourself. However, proof of citizenship and identity for your children is a must.

If your children do not qualify to be covered by HUSKY A, they may be covered by HUSKY B.
